What is BoxIndex?
BoxIndex is a home inventory app for iOS and Android. Organize belongings by room and box, find items with search and QR labels, and manage your inventory offline. Add photos, notes, tags, and quantities to keep track of moving boxes, storage, and everyday belongings.
How do I get started?
Start small: add one location, like your garage. Add a container inside it, like a box or shelf. Then add a few items with names and photos. You can build the rest of your inventory at your own pace.
Does BoxIndex work offline?
Yes. Your inventory is stored locally, and you can add, browse, search, and organize belongings without an internet connection. You don’t need to create a BoxIndex account.
What can I use as a container?
Anything that helps you organize your space: a moving box, shelf, drawer, cupboard, suitcase, or camera bag. A location is the larger space, and a container is where the items live within it.
How do the QR codes work?
Each container has a QR code you can save or share. Add the label to the physical box, then scan it with BoxIndex to open the matching container in your inventory. The code points to the container; it doesn’t upload or share its contents.
Can I back up or move my inventory?
Yes. BoxIndex supports local backups, JSON export, and ZIP export with photos. You can import a compatible export into BoxIndex on another device. Keep an export somewhere safe before changing phones; inventories don’t automatically sync between devices.
